What occurred today, in summary, was this: an American divorcée married a man whose brother will only become king because of his paternal grandmother’s father, who only became king because his brother wanted to marry an American divorcée.http://nyer.cm/DffKI61

The US has displayed some of its worst traits during the whole royal wedding commentary. It’s not all about you, and you’ve characteristically taken credit for that which requires a complete misunderstanding to observe. Meghan has been pretty much the only touch of class.

It’s also fucking hilarious that Americans seems to have convinced themselves that they are somehow a beacon of diversity in the world. What an example to set.

Plus, the diversity in the wedding seems to me to be a manifestation of the kind of internationalism The Queen has been championing for over 60 years. Not just American influence.

Added to which that wedding can’t be compared to Diana and Charles’ or Kate and Wills’ because they were both weddings of heirs to the throne. Meghan and Harry’s would have had a lot more restrictions if Harry was heir.

Finally, if the US was interested in praising Meghan there would have been far more people pointing out her degree in international relations, the fact she worked in the US embassy in Argentina, her charity work since and the platform she’ll now have in the Royal Foundation.

Haha fair, I was unloading after all the American coverage I’d seen. The piece is just cynical and inaccurate and I would have thought below The New Yorker. “Complete misunderstanding” is the problem with it, but there’s too much to tackle without a feature piece

A cheap shot constructed of a toxic mix of American exceptionalism and American solipsism might just about cover it

What goes around comes around. The final tomb that Megan stepped over before she arrived at the altar was of George III, the king reigning when America gained its independence. Full circle. Don't knock it. If you don't want her, Meghan's ours now ;-)

Today we gained a Duchess. I might have mistaken where you're from, if you're from the UK, I'm sorry. If you're not, then what you saw/heard at the wedding should have told you that in the UK we are way ahead of the USA on acceptance of diversity. Come on over and see! 💗

Oh, really? Tell us, please: Which of your prime ministers was African-American? Which of your "royalty" has been African-Anerican? And you still worship a monarchy which is absolutely perverted.

I'm sorry, but I can't stay mute when someone says that Britain is somehow more enlightened than the U.S. Our countries both have a lot of problems but I thought Obama was our best president.

Why not? The ban on the royal family marrying Catholics has been lifted. It would make the "head of the c of e" a bit complicated though 😁
