It’s apt that Melissa McCarthy’s new comedy, “Life of the Party,” opened Thursday night, on Fred Astaire’s birthday, because McCarthy has the Fred Astaire problem, a virtuoso’s self-inflicted dilemma born of power and prominence: http://nyer.cm/CI0Jne9 pic.twitter.com/mzSmZBWVe1

Let me simplify your review: McCarthy just isn't clever or funny.

Seriously, Fred Astaire and his movies were and are both genius and lighthearted fluff. Depending on the era & purpose. Since The author is a huge Jean Luc Godard fan, I know he has NOTHING to offer to me. Not every movie has to be a work of art. Leave Astaire OUT of it.pic.twitter.com/dcJVHJW1eX

I remember when this movie was called "Back to School" starring Rodney Dangerfield.

Spy was very fun, but this, this could be the worst film of the year. If you’ve seen Wedding Crashers, Old School, The Wedding Singer, or any of their predecessors or derivatives, you’ve seen this. Is there some Mad-Lib script running around and how can I cash in on it?

You'll have to ask #BenFalcone, who's apparently invented a machine that allows him to crap into it & magically generate scripts and movies. Of course, if enough people continue to pay $ to view his excrement, studios will continue to feed him. #LifeOfTheParty #MelissaMcCarthy

You're 100% correct. I realize that my almost instinctual loathing for McCarthy stems from nothing more than how masterfully she depicted and brought life to a despicable, annoying character in "Identity Thief." I will try to do better.

So many hilarious, talented women in comedy. I'll never understand why Hollywood wants to push Melissa McCarthy instead.
