After suing Harvey Weinstein, Eric Schneiderman, New York’s Attorney General, faces a #MeToo reckoning of his own. Four women accuse him of having subjected them to physical violence: http://nyer.cm/tyCazx7 pic.twitter.com/MJRahxc4i1

All have been reluctant to speak out, fearing reprisal. But two of the women, Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam, have talked to @JaneMayerNYer and @RonanFarrow on the record, because they feel that doing so could protect other women: http://nyer.cm/tyCazx7 pic.twitter.com/CxcvtubMGC

Selvaratnam says Schneiderman warned her that he could have her followed and her phones tapped, and both say that he threatened to kill them if they broke up with him. Schneiderman’s spokesperson said that he “never made any of these threats": http://nyer.cm/tyCazx7 pic.twitter.com/9PKjkqkdEb

The women did not report their allegations to the police at the time, but both say that they eventually sought medical attention after having been slapped hard across the ear and the face, as well as choked: http://nyer.cm/tyCazx7 pic.twitter.com/QgU6Ahwxp8

In a statement, Schneiderman said, “In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity. I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross.”http://nyer.cm/tyCazx7

Another woman, a former federal prosecutor, says that Schneiderman made an advance toward her; when she rebuffed him, he slapped her across the face with such force that it left a mark that lingered the next day. She has asked to remain unidentified.http://nyer.cm/tyCazx7

Is that meant to be proof? Would you be willing to go to be convicted based only on that despite your claim of innocence? I wouldn’t. And I am not saying he is innocent- I mean we don’t know yet.

Schniderman was very vocal that every acquisition should be treated as fact until proven other wise. The fact that he resigned and is claiming it was consensual instead of outright denying is all the proof you need that it happened.

As I understand it he claims it was consensual sexual activity including dominance whereas the women claim it was non-consensual sexual abuse. The former is ok - the other is not. I don’t know what really went down. But regardless I believe in due process.
