Almost uniquely among mainstream commentators, Ross Douthat has been willing to suggest the possibility that Francis will spark a genuine schism between liberals and conservatives: http://nyer.cm/kxX74tI pic.twitter.com/u7MdrAmNEw

Pope Francis brings a humanitarian and loving view and reminder of our importance to each other.

Rewrite: "Commentator suggests, bishops considering schism with the Church over Papal policies." Note: Popes don't create schisms. Those who do not respect his authority create schisms.

Douthat never saw a patriarchy he didn’t like. He’s happy to blame the sexual revolution for creating abusers like Hefner and Weinstein, as if they ever didn’t exist back when theocracies were much more prevalent. It’s fun to ignore history, but not instructive.
