I was fascinated by what this article revealed about references in the film that only someone who grew up in Japan would understand. I loved the film.

Finally, a positive critique of the film. So many haters down on this movie. I loved it! I am wondering if those who screamed “cultural appropriation” even really know Japanese culture.

I’ve been wrestling with this one for awhile. I do think Anderson had good intentions and wanted to pay homage to Japanese/Asian cinema, but instead of hiring a Japanese creative team he used all white people. It’s kind of like taking a culture’s ideas but not paying them for it.

Now I want to watch it again. I find Wes Anderson’s movies amazing!
