Oh yes, definitely more good than harm. In spite of their flaws, Hughes' movies helped a generation of teenagers feel visible and a little better understood. I think all of us loved him for that.

I watched a weekend airing of Sixteen Candles and must've forgotten about the closing scene with Caroline. Everything about the 'drunk pretty girl as chattel' was uncomfortable. Did it pass in the 80s because she played a caricature? Hm. (Tx Molly!)
