One Oklahoma teacher said that, because of lack of funding, she does things like soak dried-out markers in water to make watercolors, or melt down broken crayon bits at the end of the year to make new ones: http://nyer.cm/liuDN3J pic.twitter.com/fred9WfU3g

What makes it obscene is these Teachers have to work 20yrs before they make 40k!! With a college degree. Not a lotta extra money to fork out for school supplies.

Oklahoma teacher here - have a bachelors degree and been working, non stop, for the same school district since 1990. I make $777 a week after taxes. I give plasma in the summer.

I am guessing this means you don’t get paid in the summer. I know here some teachers can spread their pay throughout the year.

No - I mean in the summer, I give plasma. It takes a whole day - to donate & recover. I don't do it during the school year because I need that day to clean house/work on school stuff. I give plasma for the extra $$. Like you do after working for the same place for 28 years.

Next to Trump’s presidency, this is our greatest national embarrassment. How could we move forward as a country when hard working teachers have to scrape up garbage to develop supplies for students?!? Our very future is those students. This should be a top national emergency.

Oklahoma politics is Trump writ small - we give YUGE tax breaks to the big companies and then assure the teachers that the results will "trickle down." We haven't had a state raise in 10 years.

Not to mention that these kids will enter the workforce just as the tax cuts turn into tax increases and they will be paying tax on the largest national debt in history. Comcast and ATT employees getting tax cut bonuses...not teachers or demonized public workers.Just #VoteThemOut

in Australia parents have to provide those things. they get a list at beginning of year and have to buy the class supplies.

We have that here in Texas too. There are a lot of families that may not be able to afford to send supplies to school and teachers may try to make up the difference. When I was a kid, there were no lists. We just showed up to school and teachers had what they needed.

Yet admin can't spend enough, fast enough on grossly inflated pork-barrel military projects of very often questionable value. Just genius.
