The collapse of Uber’s reputation has shaken Silicon Valley, which likes to think of itself as a force for good, even when confronted with evidence to the contrary. The company's board hopes that Dara Khosrowshahi will be able to repair its image. http://nyer.cm/cqkVxkJ pic.twitter.com/hqVULJ3AcY

The biggest question is when it will become a profitable and sustainable business model and company.

I'm a little surprised that the New Yorker would buy into this myth of Silicon Valley as being being ethical - look at Facebook's use of personal data and the role of Cambridge Analytica on the election. Silicon Valley is about profit and market domination, not social good.

Uber's ethics alone is enough to cause great pause.....greyballing public officials and ex-es of Uber employees, the underpaying of driver's in NYC, the rape case in India. Same with Amazon. Liberals are buying into the convenience economy more than anyone.

Totally! I'm a big fan of France's anti-amazon policies and laws. They want their citizens out walking and shopping in their communities, includin interacting with one another and shop owners, which makes for healthier communities and individuals.https://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/06/30/france-gives-cold-shoulder-to-amazon/ …

I love @Uber. I use it every day and will continue to do so. No one is forced to work for Uber. No one is forced to give Uber money. Choices are made. "Force for good"? What's "good" is getting safely & efficiently to and from our destinations. Thank you Uber!

Anyone who’s followed Uber since its launch is well-aware of Uber’s toxic kernel of amorality, planted and nurtured by its founder. Nothing about the news since is surprising. That Silicon Valley is “shaken” is laughable. (Ditto re Facebook.)
