Ben Affleck’s is the kind of middle-aged-white-male sadness that the Internet loves to mock—a mocking that depends on a rejection of this sadness, as well as a hedging identification with it.http://nyer.cm/o2ZkMQL

Depression doesn't concern itself with age, race or gender. It affects all demographics equally. And yet, middle aged men are more likely to commit suicide than any other group. If only those sons, brothers and fathers knew that their affliction was just mock worthy 'sadness.'

Because it’s such a bad article the New Yorker keeps tweeting it again, knowing that people will comment on how bad it is (repeat ad nauseum). This is journalism today. Standards be damned.

I dunno. I’ve read much worse, and the idea of a cultural need 4 schadenfreude is interesting, but the constant repetition makes it seem like they have some weird vendetta against Ben Affleck.

Jesus Christ... this is like the fourth or fifth time I’ve seen this bullshit posted. It’s a bad article and your continuing effort to push it on us is tainting my whole view of The New Yorker.

Sadness is sadness. Felt by a middle-aged, privileged white man or from anyone else...such as someone encountering this same tweet again. And again.

Come on @newyorker thought you're better than an article with some subtle forms of bullying and body shaming to men, on top of misinformed judgement on mental health issues.
