Are instruments works of art? Kandinsky advised against getting hung up on distinctions between sight and sound, writing that either may take you “into a hitherto unknown world.” http://nyer.cm/ZT14oJk pic.twitter.com/i4KovmgCCv

Walter Pater said all art aspires to be music (and Kandinsky agreed), which is not the same as all instruments aspire to be art. Is a paintbrush art? Is painting a performance art? Maybe. Sometimes. It’s fun to think about.

Of course instruments are works of art. Every Martin that comes off that line is a work of art, hand crafted with the best tone woods to produce the best sound.

Yes! -“I am very interested in these things. I do not know why. I feel drawn to them. Their forms, their beauty.” “That is, musical instruments are wonderful things. I do not know how to use them, I may not want to use them, I enjoy their beauty. It is enough for me.
