Here in Canada the Opioid crisis is every bit as severe. It's not a symptom of the system, but of the willingness of Doctors to prescribe powerful narcotics to people that don't require them.

It is a double edge sword. Doctors prescribe because it is the first line of offense, so to speak instead of aggressive expensive treatments that health plans deny left & right. Canada may have the same issue if their doctors hands are tied to keep costs down. Not sure.

Support local people on the ground like @CTC_Brevard valiantly & practically saving lives everyday. A treatment center that does NOT use drugs to fight addiction. You'd be amazed how much they do with such little fed & state funding

And there are alternatives to opioids for pain relief anyway.

So have I. I had a bad experience once from the morphine. Now I walk through the pain. Not everyone can. Until there is an alternative that works without bad side effects, the best course is to have doctors not over prescribe them.

Not sure what you are getting at. Looks like the headline is about opioid deaths, and you are talking about a smaller number of Rx opioids. consistent with their headline. Do you think they should only take Rx deaths for some reason? Don't Rxs lead to non Rx addiction?

Those headlines are used as justification to not treat pain.

I trust doctors to understand the nuance in the headline and not read in 'Rx' when it's not stated. Also there are other ways to treat pain than just opioids, no?

Unfortunately doctors aren't making policies. Absolutely there are other treatment modalities, I've tried all of them that aren't contraindicated. No luck. I have a degenerative genetic condition, it will get worse, these is no treatment for the disorder itself
