A new book takes up the sui-generis masterpiece, Van Morrison’s “Astral Weeks,” and unearths the largely forgotten context from which it emerged.http://nyer.cm/Zglej7n

Dunno how much this book will interest the wider world, but I don’t care. I just love it.

Saw Van Morrison show up seemingly & magically out of nowhere summer '68 (ish) give a free concert at Boston Common for camped-out hippies, etc. never knew until a yr. or so ago that he was actually living there.

But Astral Weeks made so little money that Morrison had to deliberately go out and make a commercially successful album - Moondance

From on my radar to on my list. I could write for hours how the evolution of his brilliant “lock me in my room & leave me alone” impactful music was among the first to dig in my raw soul. Even pre-coming of age, it made me feel & think than accustomed to. Thank U for heads up.

Van Morrison has always been one of the best vocalists in history. He was an alcoholic and hard to work with artist; but the talent is undeniable. After he stopped drinking, his talent did not suffer-he keeps creating awesome tunes.
