Make no mistake. These people are going heavy on this armed teacher bullshit because it collaterally implicates students — children — as untrustworthy and dangerous. This is an effort to shut down the #ParklandStudentsSpeak movement.

Every time we do a lockdown drill (we do ours without students present) I go through the scenario of hearing a child in the hall. Do I unlock the door or not? I teach preschool.

Teachers don't have "charges," they have students; students who rely on their experience and expertise to acquire knowledge and at times, wisdom. Now teachers will have the opportunity to defend them with valor and exceptional training. It's the American way. Annie Oakley did it.

I'm sitting with my class of 41 students as I type. 10 years ago, during a lock down, my students asked what I would do if faced with a shooter. I told them: get on the floor, crawl to the store room, which is always opened with the knob locked. I stay between them & shooter.
