The work of the Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, whose centenary is this year, should be both outdated and remote. Why does it continue to resound? http://nyer.cm/MrrlGT6 pic.twitter.com/cff2oesFSD

Why should it be outdated and remote? This isn't true of his contemporaries, Fellini etc.

A beautiful piece by Lane. I first watched Wild Strawberries as a child, a few years after it came out: Bergman's power to delight, disgust, shock is inimitable. I'm not surprised that audiences remain rapt today.

cries and whispers had the best acting that i've ever seen in a movie. they put on a clinic for people. the seventh seal is still my favorite bergman film. it's a boring, cliched choice but......

Maybe you should rethink using the word “should” because it doesn’t resound well.

Bergman's work is brilliantly thought-provoking, magical & never outdated or remote. My favourites are always, 'The Seventh Seal' and 'Fanny and Alexander'.

i think and not to take any credit from bergman part of what made him the best director of his time was that he had the freedom to explore taboo topics that censors and producers out here wouldn't allow. (cont)

What's the basis for that statement? That could apply to any number of things, from the Bible, to Beethoven, to Taylor Swift. Whoever is running our social media account is using clickbait titles that ruins anything interesting you might have to say.
