I doubt actually that Mary Shelley wrote this story at all-if she did some of the work, it was Byron who gave the story its macabreness. Mary wasn't a fool-she, after her husband's death, can be attributed as his proper literary executor-but Bryon's hand is all over this story.

Also, Mary was 16 when she met Percy and the year was 1814 (probably May 5th according to Seymour,p90). Gordon also states that in April 1814 Mary was the “one Godwin daughter [Shelley] had yet to meet.”
