I'm not sure if something can be "brazenly" obtuse.

Here's the best coverage on this, from Amy Goodman & Dr. Harry Edwards: "It’s Despicable for Dodge to Use MLK’s Words to Peddle Trucks ":https://www.democracynow.org/2018/02/05/dr_harry_edwards_its_absolutely_despicable …

King's estate leased his speech. His sons approved the ad.https://slate.com/business/2018/02/the-mlk-estate-approved-that-dodge-ram-super-bowl-ad.html …
-
Still doesn’t make it a good idea for Dodge.
-
Yes but who do you expect to protect Dr. King's legacy? A corporation? A advertising firm? Or Dr. King's sons?
-
Dr. King’s legacy is bigger than the King family, so “all of the above” is the correct answer.
-
Why would a for-profit company? It's up to King's estate. His sons sold the rights to Dr. King's most famous speeches, like 'I Have a Dream' to Steven Spielberg. They've successfully sued civil rights documentary filmmakers working w/ shoestring budgets that included MLK footage
-
Your point being that since his family didn’t protect the legacy then no one else should either?
-
It's completely unrealistic to expect for-profit companies to be protective like a healthy family. These are the same for-profit companies that hyper-sexualize children, perpetuate racist stereotypes & lie about their product/services. It's ridiculous to believe they're noble.
