The Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director have coincided sixty-four out of ninety times. Which leads to the question: Why even bother having separate categories? http://nyer.cm/oR32NIV pic.twitter.com/iOPppODNaP

The director doesn’t get the Best Picture Oscar it goes to the producer. Question answered, now get back to publishing wry lawyer cartoons.

35? 90 minus 64 equals 26. or is that not what he meant?

We shouldn't combine Best Director and Best Picture for the same reason that we shouldn't combine Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing (which has a similar overlap rate of winners): they're different awards. Best Picture Oscar goes to the producers.

Director/picture matched once in the last five years. Kinda the wrong time to bring it up.
