Just as the male gaze sees the world on its own terms, as a place made for men’s pleasure, the coded gaze sees everything according to the data sets on which its creators trained it: http://nyer.cm/vMgLszA pic.twitter.com/hnQdGeUebV

Is this surprising, given that most IT coding types are men? Would a female-dominated coding world be more contextual and interdependent?

i imagine a female-dominated coding world would be more aware that not everybody is white but considering white feminist is a thing that exists, we can't be sure.

The fantasy female coding world wouldn’t necessarily be ‘feminist;’ it could even be ‘traditional’ - Point is studies have shown women are better workers & managers b/c of emotional intelligence ; not self- pleasure- or power- seeking in approach.

still, I imagine the only solution to this kind of bias would be actually being less biased in the training. If the coding world was still white-dominated, it would probably still be biased. But maybe women would find a solution to that instead of "blaming art history"?

ok i'm being a little obnoxious here. maybe a female dominated coding world would have designed AIs that work in a very different way, that would learn in a more integrated way and be teachable. maybe the AIs of today are very male. how can we know?

I’d say they would be anticipatory vs reactionary. Now we have “your wish is my command” type interfaces like Siri. Wouldn’t a motherly interface say, “I noticed you have this on your calendar but the weather forecast is rain and you have an umbrella in your shopping list....”

but would they want an artificial mother? o.o I can't really imagine what women coders would want that would be different. i mean all women coders I know are activists, so my sample is super biased rs.
