Under a new policy, prisoners in New York will lose access to new and used book shipments from unapproved mail catalogues, online retailers, and family members.http://nyer.cm/iKWap8J

The prison-industrial complex is intent on producing more repeat offenders than rehabilitating them.

While I don't approve of people being denied access to books, I know someone who works for a programme providing books to prisoners in the UK and they are very strict due to what could be smuggled in ie drugs, blades, SIM cards

Since they are supposed to get tablets, put e-books on a prison intranet specific to the inmates for them to download ... no way to hide contraband in them and control over content... problem solved... you're welcome...

Is that because the prisoners are using books as a way to smuggle in drugs? It would be easy to put LSD on the pages, bring the book inside and tear up the pages into doses. They can still get books from approved sources so it’s not like they can’t get books.
