The people affected by the Met's new pay policy will be families visiting our ruthlessly expensive city from out of state or from another country; students who have taken the bus or train in to fill their heads with art; immigrants without the right papers http://nyer.cm/PodXJPl

Children under 12 are free. Students/seniors are discounted and full price tickets are good for three days so this is not a bad deal.

Other museums and galleries have free general admission and charge everybody for special, short term exhibitions. That seems to work reasonably well. It may mean that there are some things that some people can't afford to see, but the mass of the exhibits are available to all.

How do the peer institutions handle this issue? Louvre? Prado? Art Institute of Chicago? They require entry fees. Millions of visitors who spend fat sums on Broadway or opulent NYC meals seem to be scamming the Met.

And go to the movies- ppl frequently spend approx $13 for 2hr pedestrian film and approx $10 on overpriced junk food. AGREE- ppl accustomed to scamming on art that’s survived the test of time

With all the wealth in NYC, there's no excuse for this change. One more reason not to visit.

The admission price is very reasonable compared with the prices in Europe. Museums have to survive too, so asking for admission fees is not bad. It should, however, be equal for everyone, resident or not

Short sighted and foolish - ignores the impact of cultural tourism on the city’s economy. Small brains. Simplistic solutions.

Seems like #NYC and @metmuseum are falling in line with Trump principles - maybe a wall around the city to keep foreigners out will be next on the agenda??? #disappointed

.@metmuseum How about Soros Sundays, Choke, I mean Koch Mondays, etc. when big donors match out-of-staters $10 with another 10 and NY residents pay $5? 7mln visitors a year, 1mln per day of week, 10 million per billionaire’s name preserved on tickets that many save as mementos?

It's not as bad as in Melbourne, Australia. They put a casino where the museum should have been, and instead of a museum built an entertainment complex.https://museumsvictoria.com.au/melbournemuseum
