“Evangelical” used to denote people who claimed the high moral ground; now, in popular usage, the word is nearly synonymous with “hypocrite”: http://nyer.cm/ZqU25ry pic.twitter.com/B8nCMU2ebJ

Also typically synonymous with zealot. And bigot. And sycophant. And is typically an antonym for Christlike. Evangelicals typically lack self awareness as well, so pseudo outrage is a common reaction to criticism.

Conservative thought does not equal bigotry and a lack of self awareness. Probably the opposite, highly self aware because there is the realization that there is a higher power in our world than our own misguided philosophies.

“Typically” was the word I was using, not equal. I disagree; the vast majority of evangelicals have no self awareness and continue to demonstrate that on a regular basis. Here’s a relevant Bible verse:pic.twitter.com/Xi4fWyIx3Y

Lately it has been the sport of media to make Christians look like a bunch of haters & poorly educated extremists. Don’t lump real Christians in that group. True Christianity is not what is suggested by the haters out there.

I was raised by Christians who are neither hypocrites or bigots. I have high but realistic expectations for Christians and your narrative of self victimization is part of the problem.

The American church with a history of being pro-slavery, anti-integration, homophobic, isolationist and generally steeped in fear makes up today's "Evangelicals". Its far from Christian.

Well, it looks like you are an “authority” on all churches. I don’t go to a church like you describe, thankfully.

I never said I was the “authority”. I called out hypocrisy and other bad behavior from Evangelicals. I’d believe you about your church if you weren’t so quick to play into the narrative that Evangelicals are oppressed. Regardless, I hope you’re right about your church.

If you claim to be a Christian and do not also identify as a hypocrite then you are not acknowledging the sinful nature of our heart and flesh. Perfect Christians do not exist—we are constantly in progress.

Wrong! A 'hypocrite' is not one who aspires but falls short; it is one who judges others' behavior when permitting all kinds of unacknowldged transgressions of one's own.

I never said hypocrisy is someone who aspires but falls short. We all aspire and fall short. Hypocrisy is just another way everyone sins. Everyone, including myself, is guilty of hypocrisy. Salvation does not eliminate that from your life.

A zygote/embryo/fetus’s theoretical rights don’t override a woman’s actual rights. If human life is such a negligible term, what separates it from life of any kind? Not awareness. Not the ability to feel pain. Educate yourself.

These are twisted and false "definitions" of what a true evangelical Christian is. Your writers need to broaden their minds and open their eyes and ears. The people you are referring to do not represent the evangelical Christians I know, honor and respect. Check your prejudice.

Just like Muslim are asked to speak to the radicals hijacking their religion, I also ask American Evangelicals to speak to their radicals. Those guys are tainting the faith of Christianity and the world is witnessing it.

Evangelicals are actually religious heretics, and the ultimate byproduct of the Great Schism of 1054. Sola scriptura, and the universal priesthood of believers, has finally given us something that is neither Christian nor Christlike.
