Rather more important was the fact Attlee was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1945-51. His Labour Party won a landslide victory on July 26,1945 (after VE Day but before VJ Day). He was leader of the Labour Party from 1935-1955. 20 years, a remarkable achievement.
