        @DavidSedaris I enjoyed the story about your mother. Mine would read similar. My alcoholic mom died of cancer at 67 in 1984. Dad's mantra was "Don't rock the boat." Her mental illness (paranoid schizophrenia) and alcoholism were verboten subjects. I'm 22 years in recovery.

        ...”recovering addict because that is a part of who I am. I have been addicted to almost everything that the public considers to be addictive. I have been asked why I still use the term, don’t I feel recovered. Hell No! I know for me that I could fall back into full blown.....

        Addiction unless I am paying attention to what leads me to using again. I am grateful for recovery and for being able to say that I am a recovering addict, it shows others that anyone can fall into the disease. I am not hiding my journey because that’s one thing that can send..

        Well now! Why is the word taboo. Anyone able to begin recovery uses this word or they are not able to truly recover. I was a using addict for approximately 30 years, starting at 13 years, I didn’t get started with recovery until I was 40. I now am 62 and I still use the term...
