“The Story of Ferdinand” was a children's book about a gentle bull who refuses to fight, wanting to sit under his favorite tree and smell the flowers. There were outcries that it was Red and Fascist propaganda: http://nyer.cm/asxUTH0 pic.twitter.com/1Yu8iNrmPj

Very influential to this old hippie: Reading Ferdinand the Bull as a child was a contributing factor to my lifelong pacifism; The Little Engine That Could taught me self confidence. Books became the theme of my life.

At 70 years of age I don't care who wants to reinterpret Ferdinand. Just give me the peaceful approach he taught me all those years ago please.

Ernest Hemingway's youngest son wrote on page 43 of his 1976 memoir "Papa" that he read and truly enjoyed that book as a child and that his famous father lamented that the book made more money than Ernests book Death in the Afternoon.pic.twitter.com/IzIjlGeHby

Great artwork. So much story conveyed with black ink and paper.

Is nothing sacred? One of my favorite books as a kid and just maybe that and Kung Fu is why I didn't grow up to be violent despite years of being bullied to the point where I felt like Carrie White sans PK ability...
