“In these times, it’s like going back to your family traditions, whatever they are, because people don’t want to see that,” the artist and writer Marilynn Montaño said. “People want Mexicans to just be silent and not express who they are.”http://nyer.cm/yLre2Jr

A great memory of my youth in El Paso was watching a kitchen full of relatives making dozens of #tamales. These days we buy. We're on our 3rd dozen pre #Christmas!

*holds up hand* I know this doesn't really mean much of anything and I've never been much for speaking for anyone else, but I *really* want Mexicans to speak up and express every bit of exactly who they are, because they deserve to be heard - and they add so much to who we are.

In #LosAngeles, everything is #mexicanpower #mexicanVoices #mexicanFood, everywhere. Come to LA if you think Mexicans aren't heard! We have around 16 million people here and Spanish and English are both first languages

"Assimilation Issues" have been a problems for all immigrants since the first Europeans arrived. And not much fun for the Native Americans either...

Yup. One big first in assimilation: pressure to anglicanize one's name. My grandparents did it after arriving here from Eastern Europe.
