“The Story of Ferdinand” was a children's book about a gentle bull who refuses to fight, wanting to sit under his favorite tree and smell the flowers. There were outcries that it was Red and Fascist propaganda: http://nyer.cm/FbOVDUy pic.twitter.com/VH64OQfmkK

I loved that book as a child, and later, reading it to my daughter, and later, reading it to my grandchildren. To me it's a story about being who you are no matter what anyone else says. Yes, I saw the pacifism in it. My daughter was born during the Vietnam War, which I protested

A childhood favorite of mine. I liked its pacifist message, I liked that Ferdinand was a boy who liked flowers, and the drawings were beautiful.

It’s also an amazing ice cream shop on the campus of WSU. They also make Cougar Gold Cheese. The original shop had the story of Ferdinand in murals on the walls. I loved going there with my dad way back in the 70s. ☺️

I loved the book as a child and perhaps mistook it for an anti-bullfighting message.

Aesop create many fables, that today must be look for their ethical content. Of curse everything can be politicised as happen in America including the children's stories as Ferdinand from forgotten author Munro Leaf.

My school must have been Red or fascist then because I distinctly remember reading the story when I was in little school
