“The Story of Ferdinand” was a children's book about a gentle bull who refuses to fight, wanting to sit under his favorite tree and smell the flowers. There were outcries that it was Red and Fascist propaganda: http://nyer.cm/GnRPViZ pic.twitter.com/l8sWJ648hN

I remember the bull used to sit and contemplate beneath a cork tree, which the artist drew as a tree with actual wine corks growing from the branches.

The notion that everyone must be militarized today to have a highly militarized Common Defense for the State does not comport with modern reality. The Military is a separate entity. So let the gentle smell the roses.

"Martial Arts are a warrior's way of life." - M. Musashi, 'The Book Of Five Rings' So Ferdinand is not a warrior. Some children aren't. Not everyone plays w/ Escrima sticks. I do. Do you know how many Kenpo students of mine have stayed w/ it the last 15 years of training? 1.

Red AND Fascist, both at once? This is high order bullshit. It's a lovely book which lends itself readily to being read to children. We should do more of that. Children love it too.
