Great that @NewYorker is catching on to David Benatar & his mind-melting book, Better Never to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence, 11 yrs AFTER it was first published. :-) He was just on with @SamHarrisOrg. https://www.samharris.org/podcast/item/is-life-actually-worth-living …

If he really believes that life is not worth to live, why shouldn't we all (including D.Benatar) commit suicide?

Just listened to him on @SamHarrisOrg podcast. I haven't read article yet, but am curious as to how much and what kind of math is involved in his work.

What math applies? His argument is that any existence is cruel and pointless.

But his answers were more nuanced than that, on the podcast. They ventured into many hypothetical scenarios where he clearly arrived at conclusions using some mathematical concepts, however simple. Perhaps basic logic with statistics? He must have an understanding of truth tables

What a bloody wanker. I couldn't finish reading that nonsense in the article, much less think about reading his misanthropic book. I don't care if he thinks he's "compassionate" - he's pure misanthrope.

I've been saying this for a while. It's almost cruel to bring a child into what's sure to be a life of struggle and misery. Class distinction are ever-widening; "Elysium" isn't too far fetched. Healthcare, housing, food and water will be the for the wealthy.
