So is the desire to lie and cheat, and baser impulses to use people for one’s own purposes. We want everything, like a two year old. But, you know, civility, morality and social contracts for the win.

Desire is certainly part of human experience. That doesn’t mean it’s always good.

Why does the adultery conversation focus on someone's desires? Adultery is about deceit. Lying. Dissembling. Betrayal. Words matter. Stop the misdirection and false equivalencies.

It may be human, but self-control is one of the things separating humans from animals. Having a desire does not equal acting on that desire.

This perspective assumes “natural” = “good.” In light of all that’s going on right now, particularly in the arena of sexual misconduct - but not only in that context, this seems like a pretty dubious, if not culturally deformative, position. @james_ka_smith

Marriage was born out of necessity. It was practical, safe, and promised stability, especially for women. Love was secondary. (You can still see this in India, Pakistan, etc.) Now that women have the opportunity of being independent, the dynamics of a relationship will change.

Not bothering to read art bc yr writing style (mag as whole) has depr. effect on me gen. But it's possible we need to redefine bounds of relationships slightly (for some) / longer leashes for others. Bunny Nation is soliciting France's help on this pressing issue (@FRANCE24)
