Lyrically, U2’s “Songs of Experience” is, unfortunately, almost nothing but banalities: http://nyer.cm/nXg96QF pic.twitter.com/UPLXhzR804

New u2 albums are like new Woody Allen films. They're usually built up as the best thing they've done in years but are almost always a pale shadow of their best work.

Funny but I liked that U2 release more than any of the others.

Yo, it’s one of the few U2 songs I ever bought. I just wasn’t expecting any esoteric commentary from it.

I was always kind of meh on them & someone gave me that CD when I still had CDs. I think they're better when not trying to be great white saviours. (Also they never had a decent guitarist.)

While the US and the UK are 'free' countries where, within reason, we can say what we want, I'm not sure if anybody has the moral right to simply write off any form of creativity as 'banal'. It's one person's opinion, remember that. @U2

I do think most bands and singers have one, maybe two good albums. Then, to me at least, they seem to stop trying or become self indulgent. Their later music just isn't interesting enough. For me Rattle & Hum was the last 1 for me. So they have done better than most.

Agreed, I think that is true of most bands, but also perhaps they become 'less relevant' as you move through life. I remember I used to worship Frank Zappa as a crazy 19-year-old, but now, he's just 'okay'. Still don't think it's right to write off a band with harsh review.
