Fifty years ago today, Otis Redding died in a plane crash. Though he was only twenty-six years old at the time of his death, he was regarded by growing numbers of listeners as the most charismatic and beloved soul singer of his generation.http://nyer.cm/WVWrE8C

#OtisRedding absolutely had the voice of an old soul. One of my favorite singers of all time.

“I’ve been loving you for too long” is my favorite Otis Redding song. It is perfection.

Would you believe I'm sitting here looking at a 45 Volt record of that song. The flip side is "I'm Depending On You". Yeah, I'm old.

Because of this thread when I picked up the Otis 45 I found I had a larger stack of 45's - Jackson 5, Del Fonics, Tower of Power, Aretha, Harry Belafonte (Calypso & Folk EP's).

Was it? I always thought it was released posthumously. (Genuine query)

I was in my bathroom getting ready for work in the morning when the announcement of the death came on the radio followed by the playing of the song. I hadn't heard it before so I suppose yes it was released posthumously where he had expired at that juncture.

According to Wikipedia (which may be wrong) it was released in January 1968 - over a month after he died.
