If these figures fall somewhere in between, it might be best to leave them alone. Not one of these monuments to these historical figures are icons of saints. Not one of them were perfect; each man & woman had a flaw. So should we just tear them all down? I think not.

They're like hieroglyphs: we don't wipe them away, do we? They teach us things about the world before us. Someday (maybe in the not-too-distant future, if we're not careful!), some form of life will come to this earth and these monuments will teach them about our history.
