Certainly this interminable tale of woe offers zero insight into what might have happened. Barring the acknowledgement of oil price collapse, this piece blithely assumes that Venezuela is entirely insulated from the outside world

The coup attempt barely merits a sentence. "Historical grievances" ignored entirely. Venezuela may be a mess, but mannered, two dimensional narratives do not help anyone

Except corruption and inefficiency follow Socialism as sure as night follows day. Govt control provides the opportunity for abuse of legal power and the lack of recourse against the state provides no way to fight abuses or even correct inefficiency.
