I don't suppose it's occurred to anyone, that they weren't allowed to drive cos they have to wear burkas? Just me? K

Their eyes are free. Iran at one time required a male relative to sign permission for women to drive, so this isn't a new concept in the ME.
-
Their eyes are no more free than their poor, oppressed souls.
-
Free as in, not covered. I wasn't being philosophical there. The conditions for women in SA and in many parts of the ME are abominable by our standard. This is what Islamic ideology looks like.
-
Hmmm, I'm from Bradford aka Bradistan, &there's a very big difference between 3rd world Muslims and 1st world Muslims. Problem ain't Islam.
-
My Mom is from Iran. Arguably one of the more progressive countries, but to pretend women are equal there, or even almost equal would be a lie. Islam says men are above women and allowed to control them like children.
-
And I'm not sure who is pretending women are equal in Iran or anywhere else.
-
No, not pretending, but perhaps minimizing the plight a bit? You can always point to someone who has it worse, but of course that doesn't mean both kinds of suffering are not real.

Does that headline work with a mock up of a female in a burka? No is the answer you're looking for.

We can only hope that Saudi women can someday free themselves from the oppressive grip of Moslem society.
