Would a disabled actor be better equipped to convey the physical aspects of disability in “Stronger”?http://nyer.cm/1gavIeh

This logic calls upon killers to portray killers , Texans to play Texans, bakers to play bakers , wizards to play wizards ...

Having said that disabled actors need more representation. But stars sell tickets sadly . We need to bolster more disabled actors

Didn't seem to stop Daniel Day Lewis playing Christy Brown in My Left Foot. He got an Oscar for it.

That's not the right question. Just put disabled actors in roles!

Somehow an able-bodied actor has every right to take any role but a disabled actor has to prove to be above&beyond other's capacities?pic.twitter.com/eL2pgNGNBx

That's absurd! It wouldn't be "acting" anymore. It would go against the purpose of acting as a craft. And Gyllenhaal is outstanding in this.

Is there a disabled actor as big a box office draw (or as good an actor) as Gyllenhaal? If not the question answers itself.

More generally, only actual subjects should be allowed to play selves in any bio film. Even if they're dead. Why discriminate v the dead?

I'm finding the whole argument that actors need 'real' connections to their role quite tedious.

the inability of many ppl to use their imagination, to imagine themselves as others, is also lack of empathy. art is spsd to be a bridge!

to have an amputee, say, play the main role would be an act of manipulation, not art. but many want to be manipulated, it's easier that way.

Most movies are less likely to make back their cost, let alone profit, without a star to attract audiences. Stars protect one's investment.
