Math is about nothing. Math is the "Seinfeld" of high school education, an anti-algebra political scientist argues. http://nyer.cm/3Lp3FQl

Calculus or trig or other advanced math. Have them take something a bit more relevant to what they want to do.

I struggled through math in H.S., but I kept at it & I'm so glad I learned what I did &was forced to take it. Let's not dumb down USA more.

I doubt Andrew Hacker could give a definition of algebra if he tried. Math ed increases the ability to think critically - sadly undervalued.

Mathematics is the fundamental way humanity may undrstnd & dscribe the universe. It is a language, tool, & more. It holds a unique position.

Time is limited. I'd rather not waste mine learning a language for a country I'll never visit or mastering a tool for a trade not my own.

Yes, and it doesn't speak. Humans only talk to themselves and ascribe the words to God. You like math, you learn it. I have no need of it.

I do :) It may not speak to you, but you are using math to speak. Mathematics & physics underlies computation, electricity, the internet.

Math is poorly taught, but vital even for non-scientists. Don't disparage what you don't comprehend.
