But prevail has a lot of meanings. Confederate flags fly here in New York. I was taught in the public schools of the Land Of Lincoln abolitionist state of Illinois that the Civil Was was fought over states rights. Our military bases are named for vanquished confederate generals.

I was taught this episode of post French Revolution by a proud Haitian historian, happy to point out to us that the slaves, hearing what the peasants had done to the King in France, decided to revolt as well, and overthrow their masters, which they did.

It should be mentioned and studied. However the omission should not exclude the fact that Haiti is nowadays one of the poorest countries in the Americas. And also that within the Revolution there was the 1804 massacre, that killed thousands of creoles and white people.
