That movie also encouraged 1) rape by deception (the Carnival) 2) video spying 3) outing women's nudes without permission- the Pie sale..damn, that movie wasn't nearly as funny as I thought....

It was funny in its time. Many of these films were and something can be gleamed from the fact that there’s a whole gen of young men who watched these movies and never grew up to act out or demean others. Just a thought.
-
The corollary yo that is: many more grew up with that model of a “joke” and women are uptight if they don’t agree
-
I do not believe I made that argument in my writing. Is that the conclusion you inferred for what I responded? Thank you
-
No, that’s not the point you made. What I’m saying is, you argue that most men don’t act out those movies but I argue that that doesn’t mean they don’t do damage. That message of what constitutes a “joke” has been internalized by that generation.
-
This is a complicated and lengthy conversation that I am very willing to have. Can not bring myself to disavowing all films/movies/music from my Gen simply because our understandings have changed. Instead I see them for what they are now and teach the next Gen from them.
-
Yeah I hear you, it’s hard. And I actually think you’re right—to erase them would erase the context of where we are today. I guess it’s good if you look back on your adolescent influences and cringe. I guess it means we’ve progressed?
-
I think so. It would be a shame if I were to look at these movies and still laughed at the superficial and stereotypical characters they presented. The humor and insight I now have is how far I’ve come.

maybe, but Gilbert (Anthony Edwards) is arguably the true hero, elected frat council president, hooks up w fellow nerd female from Omega Mu in mutually respectful non-incel romance, and, taking on Alpha Betas, courageously disrupts homecoming to give greatest speech of all time

To be fair, "Revenge of the Nerds" was a fantasy "underdog" story with highly questionably morality and ethics, based on ludicrous "college culture" - I don't think it was ever intended to be thought of as an instructional video.

Gop are Alpha Betas while Dems are Tri-Lams. “We have news for the beautiful people. There's a lot more of us than there are of you. “

How long have you been waiting to vent these thoughts about this movie? Do you feel better now that they’re out?
