"It’s hard for me to understand how John Hughes was able to write with so much sensitivity, and also have such a glaring blind spot," @MollyRingwald writes: http://nyer.cm/fB8U9vx pic.twitter.com/OSo098hBvF

Actually not hard at all. He was reflecting the culture as it existed - not inventing it. You should be mature enough to appreciate the distinction.

Meu inglês é ruim, leio muito pouco. Eu preciso tomar vergonha e voltar a estudar o inglês. 🙈😁

Great article, I appreciated reading your perspective. There is an incredible amount of substance in his films, some of which ages better than others. Regardless, his movies and your roles (@MollyRingwald ) will always be held close to my heart.

John Hughes movies are a conservatives wet dream. Hardly any racial or ethnic minorities.

So what? Hughes grew up in the Chicago surburbs, not the South Side, but I, an African-American, related to the characters he created as a teen, trying to find their way in the world.

Going back and watching movies like revenge of the nerds, back to school, Porky's, etc the protagonist "heroes" are total assholes to women and generally the worst people in the film. Watching as a kid that was not the takeaway.
