So these people acknowledge sexual abuse as a crime but choose to chalk it up to youth. In other words, a criminal deserves a second chance. Yet these very people begrudge ex-convicts who have paid a debt to society and have clearly reformed an opportunity at a clean start. Well?

No one has said that and the fact that you would print it is beyond ridiculous. Lets say for a moment the sentiment was true...how should we handle them? Castration? Public flogging? What if no real evidence was presented? Let the court of public opinion settle it?
-
How about not letting them have lifetime appointments where they get to decide what Jaws the rest of us follow
-
That would be Congress sir that makes the laws. The court protects us from constitutional violations. For instance innocent until proven guilty. The 14th amendments guarantees equal protection under the law. Unless you’re a Republican SCOTUS nominee. They are guilty regardless.

What criminal sexual cruelty are you talking about??? He seems to had had a pretty standard hs life. Those who play outrage now either don’t know or pretend not to. Parties were normal, and so were the drinks and pursuits. Did anyone report any criminality?
-
Not the point. They’re arguing that *even if he is guilty* (which is still unproven) then it doesn’t matter. Do you think the things he’s accused of, if true, are “pretty standard” and don’t matter?
-
First of all innocent until proven beyond reasonable doubt. Secondly none of these accusations can be proven now 36 years later. It’s just she said he said. At this point it’s just a headline digger and slander campaign. They should have a vote ASAP and finish with this nonsense
-
That’s a non-answer. I’m not claiming he’a guilty. Or that the allegations can be proven. But some people are defending him by saying that even if he did it, it’s not serious. Which sounds vile to me. And the New Yorker is entirely right to call that out.
-
And twisting a pretty normal hs life with “criminal sexual cruelty”. That can only be right in a twisted mind. It’s like saying all the Woodstock hippies were mass raping women on acid back in the 60s

I've been hearing that message my entire life. Most any woman who is in the workforce, went to high school, went to college, ever went to a bar has heard the same.

Not that I'm fine with Kavanaugh (I'm not), but I'm not sure how the New Yorker came to this conclusion.

Can we stop with the vague headlines and actually name who put out that euphemized message?

I'm really upset the ethics my parents instilled in me at a young age took hold. Knowing the difference between what is right and wrong is such a pain to live with. I could have engaged in criminal sexual cruelty at 17 because boys will be boys. My parents *lied* to me!
