The question for the Church now, given the astounding scale of the dysfunction, arching from the Americas to Europe, Africa, the Philippines, and Australia, is: What in Catholic culture caused this debauchery? http://nyer.cm/8RvrvxB

The fact that they don't allow women to be priests, and asking for lifetime celibacy for religious orders probably doesn't help.

It's the same story everywhere...with men solely in charge, they tend to do what they want and when they want...completely free of accountability.

Uh, no one being held accountable and the eagerness to project and protect the image of piety, purity and respectability? How is that not obvious?

The tribe of Levi were priests. The sons of priests became priests. How did priests get sons?

END celibacy practices, encourage priests to marry and have normal families, celibate priests encouraged to be monks, encourage more post career men to enter priesthood, create a parallel female priesthood and male nunhood. There are many new ways for the Catholicism 2 change.

Systematically discriminating against the entire female gender would be one place to start.

There is no place in civilised society for the church. It needs to be torn down, and its assets sold to pay its victims.

Ah, an apologist for a corrupt organisation that spent the 20th century covering up child sex abuses. Well played, sir.

They can worship at home. The church has proven itself, by its actions, that it has no place in a civilised society. And yes, you are an apologist.

Lots of people are celibate and unmarried. They aren't raping ped*philes. If it was merely that there are prostitutes that could scratch that itch on the down low. This is about unchecked power and pathology.

It's an organization no more moral than any other organization... because it acts like it is we all act shocked! If there were another organization that gave men status who swore off sex with adults I would expect the same results!

On the right they're saying it's the progressives, but that's just partisan myopia forced by an assumption that the real problem is homosexuality It's not, its clericalism. Benedict XVI and John Paul II both knew, and did nothing.
