In the Whiteville neighborhood that “used to be called Brooklyn,” rescue vehicles passed: cop cars, utility trucks, elevated vehicles in camouflage paint. http://nyer.cm/tKmupzr pic.twitter.com/1pDm0VawCk

This is terribly untrue and the complete opposite of the community I live in, Whiteville.

Not nearly representative of this community. Just another "journalist" writing an inciteful headline for publicity, riding a tragedy affecting thousands of good people. No research. No knowledge of the community. People of all races flooded, suffering & working together here.

@NewYorker This is inflammatory and NOT true. We do not need your brand of journalism in Whiteville. If you want to help, then roll up your sleeves and get to work. If not, then please excuse yourselves.

This article is #chickenshit. Take anecdotal comment(s) (assuming actually said) to suggest its representative of the whole, towards a town of 10k currently reeling. A click bait, hit piece like this is emblematic of why trust in the media is at an all time low.

Had to get the Trump bashing in there. Meanwhile, those of us who live in the real world saw an amazing display by our Coast Guard, as well and Air National Guard helicopters from Wisconsin and Nebraska flying in and out. Typical click-bait fake news. I don't believe a word.

This focuses, unfairly, on the negative at a very low point in many people's lives. However, residents of rural and urban NC need to come to grips with the fact that even in our under-served rural communities there are people who've been there just as long and feel left out.
