There are about four thousand hog farm manure "lagoons" across North Carolina, many near the coast. Many area environmentalists are deeply concerned about floodwaters from Florence causing these pools of excrement to overflow.http://nyer.cm/ucFR2au

Hurricane Floyd was a wake-up call for the industry in NC. The legislature enacted strict regulations, backed by hog farmers, to prevent harmful environmental consequences. Farmers moved livestock and drained lagoons ahead of Florence. Try using facts.

How can these “farmers” get away with such irresponsible storage procedures? It boggles the mind.

It is used for fertilizer. They don't collect it because it smells good. Actually this may be the least of concerns. There are chemical fertilizers, weed killers, farm diesel fuel all mixed in the flood waters. Add some snakes too.

Animal farming is the most disgraceful way of making living. The outdated and atrocious laws that animals are property, has to be changed.https://twitter.com/mercyforanimals/status/1034605613748248584?s=21 …

This is seriously bad news and not a joke and potentially the worst consequence of the flooding aftermath (other than death). If you don’t believe this go to one of these pig farms and surrounding areas and see for yourself when there’s not a flood.
