Can economists and humanists ever be friends? Those who seek to reduce behavior to laws would seem hopelessly at odds with those who are fascinated by our full particularity.http://nyer.cm/x8nqGCn

1st where does it say that because a subject uses math that said subject is defined by laws? US economists are the absolute worst example of folks pretending they are scientists and their numbers mean something other than fraud. Marx and Engels, they are not. Humanists win!

Just cancelled my long time @NewYorker subscription. Horrified that David Remnick thought white supremacy is an "opposing viewpoint" that should be debated in good faith. Nice non-apology. When Remnick apologizes properly and is fired, I'll consider renewing.

If more economists would, like the Nobel Prize-winning Amartya Sen, read and take seriously the parts of Adam Smith that aren't so easily converted to graphs and charts and showy mathematics, economists would have no trouble befriending humanists.pic.twitter.com/rhupd8wttm

You don't understand economics if you think it is about creating rules. It's all about the interplay. So it's just like ...

Economists are incapable of imagining a straight casino. Mainly due to a criminal nature that breeds cowardice. They cannot risk their Ill-gotten/hard-won loot on anything so fragile as "humanity". With themselves as examples, why would they? Humanists are likelier to take risks

So yes, they can be friends, & like most human friendships it won't always be perfect, pretty or without disagreement. There is a middle way & other capitalist societies have found it. Where a consensus, not the economist, or humanist, make the laws.

How about: ‘Can economists and human beings be friends?’ The entire purpose of economists is to enable megalomaniacs and trash the planet. Nice job pussyfooting around the problem tho!

"reduce" is a harsh and mistaken understanding of what economists do.
