Trump has tried to cast the Canadians as the weakest party in the NAFTA talks, threatening to exclude the country from the agreement with Mexico, and to impose new tariffs if Canada did not make major concessions. http://nyer.cm/9LD06vq

canada should petition to join the EU. We seem to be closer to them lately. we have a strong economy, our population is one of the most educated in the world, our banking system is sound. let's find more stable economic partnerships.

It sure looks like Canada is the weakest party, though. Or, at the very least, the negotiating furthest from their actual level of importance/power.

In terms of actual influence, Canada is negotiating furthest from their position. IE they believe they can play hard ball, but they can't. Mex seems to understand it's position, and fell into place.

Its difficult to deal with a President who dislikes science, makes up his version of facts on the go, can't be faithful to his wife much less agreements, thinks killing people to get his way is ok.Why would Canada want a deal with this man.

I don't view Canada as freaking out. I see them standing their ground. Trade deals with our largest trading partners cannot be one-sided. Ranting cannot be disguised as negotiation.
