UK & USA rescued France. They needed a figurehead. De Gaulle after failing to compently defend France elbowed his way to the front of politics - but not armed defense against Nazis. Then he slaughtered his own people in Paris when they protested Algeria. De Gaulle is scum.

Competently...you have a wee typo. Are you driving a Sherman Tank as you tweet? Did the USA and UK really rescue Paris? You have no respect for La Résistance?

Did he save it by having the combined might of the UK and commonwealth and USA's armed forces kick out the nasty German's?

He talked to the people on the ground to keep morale up. Very important in any attack to let the people know you are there to help them. And do that.

That uni-browed idiot gave credibility to the free-Quebec movement on an official visit to Canada. That movement led to murdered officials and animosity over nothing to this very day. Canadians revile de Gaulle. After all we did for France. Shame.

History is not a liberal echo chamber. Exile & the Vichy gov’t make interesting subjects for the critically thinking, who understand what actually allowed de Gaulle to return to France in a dignified manner - a precursor to any “rescuing.” It was Germans subdued by Allied Forces.
