The freak British heat wave has made this summer one of the best in living memory for what archeologists call “parch marks”—ghostly, pale outlines of vanished castles, settlements, and burial sites that materialize on the land when it dries out.http://nyer.cm/pFd2ua2

A little schooling in some basic geography wouldn't go amiss. You do realise that "burial mounds in IRELAND" are not in Britain? How this sloppiness makes it to publication is beyond me... @ismiseleenie

Ireland is obviously not part of the UK but the island of Great Britain, containing the vast majority of England Scotland and Wales is, by it's name, the largest of the British Isles of which Ireland is part of so in a geographical if not political sense Ireland is British

It is without any official status. The Government, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, does not use this term."

It's not a freak heat wave. It has been predicted and it's happening. Global climate change that demands action.

I don't recall a July with so little rain, it's usually more like a second April with lots and lots of showers. August is like a warm sauna running out of steam, we're just not used to it on these chilly, sodden islands. Gets the kids outside though, it's not all bad :-)
