The anti-natalist philosopher David Benatar argues that it would be better if no one had children ever again.http://nyer.cm/2jn5r1q

From an environmentalist pov, it would be a good idea to reduce the global birthrate drastically. VERY drastically. And I endorse that. But to say no one should have children ever, purely because life is bad — that isn’t philosophy, it’s just depression.

The case for not being born is the same as the case for not accelerating if there’s a visible red light within one-half mile. Shut up and hit the gas. It will be green when you get there.

David Benatar is right. It’s too simplistic to dismiss his arguments as “depression”.

Well, even if life sucks, the idea of human extinction anytime soon sucks even more, to most people. I don't want kids myself but I'm glad other people have them. Check out the movie "Children of Men". It's more convincing that David Benatar's book, which I read very carefully...

I've already made up my mind not to have kids. But if push comes to shove, I"d adopt a kid. I really think we all need to stop having kids.

The Anti-Natalist viewpoint is valid. Majority of society has Natalist view which may focus on well being of people, but ignores continued harm to animals and environment.http://amzn.to/PUJsmQ

At no time in conversation or debate should the ills of man outweigh the Will of God. Is this that time in prophecies where Morals turns to Morons?

My father had this view. He was depressed and depressing and its probably why I don't have kids but it is nihilistic existential nonsense. The fun outweighs the misery when you reject the idea of cosmic indifference.
