Hannah Gadsby, like many women, is done hiding her anger, and in “Nanette” she bends the bounds of stand-up to accommodate it.http://nyer.cm/GOp8n1Q

I just watched 20 minutes of this so-called "comedy" special and laughed literally zero times, this isn't comedy it's more like a tragic train wreck of epic proportions

I watched it and there wasn’t 1 joke in the entire special, it was a documentary about her abuse

Watched 15 minutes. If within 15 minutes a comic fails to elicit any laughs, that ain’t comedy.

Her set was one of the bravest things I've ever seen. Kudos to her for writing such poignant and vulnerable work and kudos to all the people who helped her get it to such a wide audience. I am certain that her visibility is going to help people who otherwise feel lost and alone.

I laughed for about half of it and cried for the other half. I left it feeling rejuvenated and thoughtful. It was a storytelling show.

That didn't really answer my question. Was it a stand-up comedy like advertised

To me, yes? I see... A lot of comedy, so I'm always interested in playing with the form. Did you see Patton Oswalt's Netflix special where he talked about being a widower? I would still call that stand up even though I cried for 20 minutes

Interesting, i ask because im pretty conservative and i dont think it does but i think it really helps to hear what other people have to say before just making a decision on something even if it sounds stupid to you

I think frequently genre lines and labels are inadequate, and I also think the art is constantly evolving and so the terms move with it. I can laugh during drama and cry at comedy. This particular set (or Patton's set about being a widower) might not be for you and that's okay.

It's not really comedy though...it's a monologue...with some amusing parts to it. More of a tragedy than comedy.

Her bit on being labeled "oversensitive" was poignant, relevant, and seriously funny. "When somebody tells me to 'stop being so sensitive', you know what? I feel a little like a nose being lectured by a fart. I am not the problem." - Hannah Gadsby
