Cypress closed because of self-inflicted wounds. There was no sudden catastrophe that sunk the Cypress ship. 2/

They should have been able to anticipate financial struggles and come up with solutions long before being faced with a significant budget gap that they allowed to doom its fate. 3/

It's the board's job to hold the school accountable to financial, academic, and operational goals. It failed to live up to that responsibility. 4/

If there is any lesson to be learned here it's how our charter school boards are ill-equipped to understand their responsibilities and uphold them. 5/
